Sl Math Ia Olympics - 1372 Words

Winning Heights in the Men’s Olympic High Jumps Introduction: The Olympics are an international sporting event that is held every four years where people from around the world send their best athletes to compete and see who the best of the best is when it comes to sports. The Olympics date back to Ancient Greece where their basic events included track and field, which are like men’s high jump which is the topic of this report. In this problem we are looking at the data collected from the gold medalists in the men’s high jump in from the years 1932-1980, excluding the years 1940 and 1944 where the Olympics were not held due to World War II. Below is the data for the gold medalists in the men’s high jump from the years 1932-1980 (again†¦show more content†¦The graph of this function is shown below On the graph above you can see that both the quadratic and the line are both adequate representations of the data collected by gold medalists for the men’s high jumps in the Olympics. Both of these lines follow the plots made on the original graph and they don’t stray too far from those lines either. There only outlier for the quadratic seem to be the medalist from the 1948 Olympics because his height is far below the quadratic. There might be some problems with the exact position of where the quadratic is and where the line is because they were drawn by hand and not on the computer like the stat plots which could potentially cause problems for interpreting the data. To figure out what the predicted outcome of both the 1940 and 1944 Olympics all you have to do is plug in 1940 in to the equation y=3.02x+191, which was what was used in the graph that showed just the linear equation, to figure out this answer for the 1940 Olympics. You can do this because in this case the x represents the year and when you place in the year and solve out the equation you get what the predicted height would be for 1940. When you plug in all the numbers you get 200.6 cm as the predicted height for 1940. In the case of 1944 you would do the exact same thing but instead of plugging in 1940 in for x you would plug 1944 into the equation. For the 1944 the predicted answer for the height of the men’s long jump would be 200.3 cm. The problem also

Veterans people to remember Essay Example For Students

Veterans people to remember Essay Veterans people to remember Essay This Veterans Day pays tribute to those who did their duty as patriots. It is our moral duty to make them feel appreciated on Veterans Day. A small thing to ask in exchange for extraordinary valor and bravery. Many years our Nation has honored Veterans and set aside a special day to pay tribute and say thank you to those who serve in our Armed Forces. On this Veterans Day, Americans across the country will honor and remember their family members, friends, and neighbors who served in our Nations military. No act of citizenship is more worthy of respect than service in our Armed Forces in order to protect and defend our ideals and because the tradition of the citizen soldier is deeply imbedded in our Nations history. Most Americans are privileged to have friends, family members, and colleagues whom they can personally thank, on this significant day, for their military service. Since the birth of our Nation, American soldiers, sailors, Marines and pilots have showed heroism, courage, and daring during wartime. Veterans Day is a reminder to the rest of us of the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. Veterans Day is also an opportunity to recognize the challenges faced, and sacrifices made, by those who serve during what passes for peacetime in todays, and tomorrows, ever-changing the unstable world. The men and women who serve in our American Army are among our best and our brightest. The many soldiers who have risked their life toward the benefit of our country have earned our respect and our thanks. Ceremonies, speeches, displaying the flag, visiting veterans cemetery, spending time with a veteran in a hospital these are all wonderful ways to honor our veterans. Veterans and men and women in the army now have protected our country and given us many rights as citizens, freedom of speech, voting, and many more that we can use at our willing. Without our veterans, we would not enjoy the rights that we so often take for granted. Finally, I hope all of us will honor Men and Women in Vietnam, Revolution, the world wars, and others not mentioned. Everyone should set away some time, for a few moments on Veterans Day, and every day, to remember those millions of service members, not with sorrow or regret, but with pride in the job they did, and with humble thanks that America extraordinarily good and decent people. Veterans asked very little of their country but gave everything they had. The least we can do is give them our sincerest thank you for a job well done. There are perhaps thousands of veterans in the community family, friends, and others. Who deserve a thank you on this special day. If you appreciate the freedom, we, as Americans, enjoy today, and then you realize why its important to honor those who sacrificed for that freedom. .

Global Warming and the Risk of Flooding in Tuvalu

Global Warming and the Risk of Flooding in Tuvalu Tuvalu is a tiny island country located in Oceania about halfway between the state of Hawaii and the nation of Australia. It consists of five coral atolls and four reef islands but none are more than 15 feet (5 meters) above sea level. Tuvalu has one of the worlds smallest economies and has recently been featured in the news as it is becoming increasingly threatened by global warming and rising sea levels. Basic Facts Population: 11,147 (July 2018 estimate) Capital: Funafuti (also Tuvalus largest city) Area: 10 square miles (26 sq km) Coastline: 15 miles (24 km) Official Languages: Tuvaluan and English Ethnic Groups: 96% Polynesian, 4% Other History of Tuvalu The islands of Tuvalu were first inhabited by Polynesian settlers from Samoa and/or Tonga and they were left largely untouched by Europeans until the 19th century. In 1826, the whole island group became known to Europeans and was mapped. By the 1860s, labor recruiters began arriving on the islands and removing its inhabitants either by force and/or bribe to work on sugar plantations in Fiji and Australia. Between 1850 and 1880, the population of the islands fell from 20,000 to just 3,000. As a result of its decline in population, the British government annexed the islands in 1892. At this time, the islands became known as the Ellice Islands and in 1915-1916, the islands were formally taken over by the British and formed a part of the colony called Gilbert and Ellice Islands. In 1975, the Ellice Islands separated from the Gilbert Islands due to hostilities between the Micronesian Gilbertese and the Polynesian Tuvaluans. Once the islands separated, they became known officially as Tuvalu. The name Tuvalu means eight islands and although there are nine islands comprising the country today, only eight were initially inhabited so the ninth is not included in its name. Tuvalu was granted full independence on September 30, 1978, but is still a part of the British Commonwealth today. In addition, Tuvalu grew in 1979 when the U.S. gave the country four islands that had been U.S. territories and in 2000, it joined the United Nations. Economy of Tuvalu Today Tuvalu has the distinction of being one of the smallest economies in the world. This is because the coral atolls on which its people are populated have extremely poor soils. Therefore, the country has no known mineral exports and it is largely unable to produce agricultural exports, making it dependent on imported goods. In addition, its remote location means tourism and the related service industries are mainly non-existent. Subsistence farming is practiced in Tuvalu and to produce the largest agricultural yield possible, pits are dug out of the coral. The most widely grown crops in Tuvalu are taro and coconut. In addition, copra (the dried flesh of a coconut used in making coconut oil) is a major part of Tuvalus economy. Fishing has also played an historic role in Tuvalus economy because the islands have a maritime exclusive economic zone of 500,000 square miles (1.2 million sq km) and because the region is a rich fishing ground, the country gains revenue from fees paid by other countries such as the U.S. wanting to fish in the region. Geography and Climate of Tuvalu Tuvalu is one of the  smallest countries on Earth.  It is in Oceania south of Kiribati and halfway between Australia and Hawaii. Its terrain consists of low lying, narrow coral atolls and reefs and it is spread over nine islands which stretch for just 360 miles (579 km). Tuvalus lowest point is the Pacific Ocean at sea level and the highest is an unnamed location on the island of Niulakita at only 15 feet (4.6 m). The largest city in Tuvalu is Funafuti with a population of 5,300 as of 2003. Six of the nine islands comprising Tuvalu have lagoons open to the ocean, while two have landlocked regions and one has no lagoons. In addition, none of the islands have any streams or rivers and because they are coral atolls, there is no drinkable ground water. Therefore, all of the water used by Tuvalus people is gathered via catchment systems and is kept in storage facilities. Tuvalus climate is tropical and is moderated by easterly trade winds from March to November. It has a heavy rain season with westerly winds from November to March and although tropical storms are rare, the islands are prone to flooding with high tides and changes in sea level. Tuvalu, Global Warming, and Rising Sea Levels Recently, Tuvalu has gained significant media attention worldwide because its low-lying land is so susceptible to rising sea levels. The beaches surrounding the atolls are sinking due to erosion caused by waves and this is exacerbated by rising sea levels. In addition, because the sea level is rising on the islands, Tuvaluans must continually deal with their homes flooding, as well as soil salination. Soil salination is a problem because it is making it difficult to get clean drinking water and is harming crops as they cannot grow with the saltier water. As a result, the country is becoming more and more dependent on foreign imports. The issue of rising sea levels has been a concern for Tuvalu since 1997 when the country began a campaign to show the need to control greenhouse gas emissions, reduce global warming and protect the future of low lying countries. In more recent years though, the flooding and soil salination have become such a problem in Tuvalu that the government there has made plans to evacuate the entire population to other countries as it is believed that Tuvalu will be completely submerged by the end of the 21st century. The legacy of the plantation, the class struggle between dark and light skinned, the different lifestyles of city and country people, and the lack of a cohesive culture are all ideas toughed upon in the writings of Michele Cliff, Sidney Mintz, and Antonio Benitez-Rojo. The distinct difference in styles is what separates these writings. Cliff writes from the viewpoint of an islander, while Mintz and Benitez-Rojo write from a European point of view. All three authors begin by "telling" the history of the region in different ways. Mintz describes the Caribbean using nine distinct similarities, that he feels all islands have in common. He paints a picture of explorers "island-hopping" and discovering characteristics of each island. Mintz goes on by saying that the sole purpose for colonization was the plantation and the products of that plantation (mainly sugar). He continues by stating that the Caribbean is "western society" formed by European ideals and thoughts that were infused into the everyday life of the islands and its inhabitants. He says, that because of this heavy European influence, the Caribbean has no real culture. Its culture was formed by the teachings of European ideals and the remembered African tradition, which they brought over with them. Benitez-Rojo speaks of a rhythm that is present in the Caribbean. He does not believe that there is a Caribbean culture. He does say that the people of the Caribbean have a certain rhythm to them. "It is rhythm that puts all the Caribbean peoples in ‘the same boat,’ over and above separations imposed on them by ‘nationality and race,’ it is rhythm—not a specific cultural expression—that confers Caribbeanness." Cliff doesn’t really go into a description of the whole Caribbean. She tells the story of a light skinned Jamaican named Clare. Imc Process in Advertising Essay

McDonalds is known today around the world and by every two year old. When they first opened up in 1940 they were a BBQ drive thru. In 1948 they reopened as a hamburger joint and their big advertisement was 15 cent hamburgers. In 1955 the golden arches were designed by architect Stanley Meston, and they did not know at that time they would become the national trademark of McDonalds. The advertising has changed over the years, but the catchy phrases live on and most people would know the company by their slogans. The first advertisement done for McDonalds was the number of hamburgers sold, the first sign read 100 million sold in 1958. Over the years it has changed to billions and billions. By 1962 they were advertising the first come in and sit down McDonalds. The biggest advertising campaign came for McDonald’s in 1966 when they introduced Ronald McDonald in the first television commercials and at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where Ronald McDonald was sitting in a flying hamburger. He became an instant hit by children and the franchise grew tremendously in the next few years even to include internationally. In 1971 the advertising grew to add friends for Ronald McDonald to include Hambuglar, Grimace, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, and the Big Mac in Ronald McDonald land. The advertising of these new characters created frenzy for children with toys, games, and cartoons. The â€Å"Have you had your break today,† advertisement began in 1995, and in 1997 the catch phrase was â€Å"Did Someone say McDonalds?† That did not catch on as well as the advertisers expected so in 1998 they changed it to â€Å"Made for you,† this is still their slogan today. Advertising the â€Å"Made for you,† slogan has benefited the company greatly because even in the recession during 2007-2008 sales to the company still grew. The advertising of McDonalds use to be driven more towards children, but in recent years it has been geared more towards adults with Wi- Fi advertising, the line of McCafà ©s it offers, and the adults menus of hamburgers and salads. The theory behind this was not only do children want to go to McDonalds but it is a great place for adults to meet, have a meal and work with their computers. Consumers are impacted by McDonalds advertising because of the prices, the look of the food on commercials and billboards, and convenience that your food will be hot and ready, and â€Å"Made for you.† When it is a hot day and you are thirsty and you see the commercials or a billboard with a cold soda, and the ice over flowing, and  the condensation on the side of the glass, knowing that it is only a dollar and there is a McDonalds on every corner it makes you want one. While you are there getting that drink the pictures on the menu make you hungry. This is how they get the attention of customers and boost sales. They have the largest advertising budget in the United States at $2 billion dollars a year. (O’Brien, 2012) That is why you cannot turn on a radio, television, or drive down the road without seeing a Mc Donald’s advertisement. The large advertising budget allows McDonald’s to reach an audience far larger than most fast food chains. This keeps them on top, and adding new items to the menus will keep customers coming back for more. This is found in the once a year campaign of the McRib. The advertising for the sandwich is done about a week before they are in the restaurants and because of the limited time available ads this increases the want for the sandwich. When people are watching a show late at night and seeing the advertisement’s for McDonalds it makes them think they are hungry and should run out to McDonalds to get the hamburger, chicken nuggets, and those world famous french fries along with a cold soda, that is advertised with lots of ice. Now that most McDonalds are open late or 24 hours, this means you can fix your cravings caused by an advertisement any time day or night. This is exactly the chains plans in advertising. I believe that McDonalds has had great success in their advertising over the years. This is because the success of the company, stock prices that are $100 per share and when you compare them to other fast food chains McDonalds is on the top. (O’BRIEN, 2012) Even though the ways of advertising has changed from radio to television, billboards to internet the messages are all the same. Buy our product it will make you happy, healthy, improve your lives, make you live longer, or fix that late night craving. I believe the more a product is advertised the more people will want to try it. If it is satisfying to the consumer they will be coming back for more. Having a slogan, jingle, or a character helps keep the advertisement in our minds, and when we hear them we do not even have to be in the room to know what is being advertised on the commercials. I tried this on my daughter while writing this paper and she was able to get almost everyone. This proves the fact that the more they advertise the more the product becomes familiar and people are more comfortable with familiar things. Works Cited O’BRIEN, K. (2012, may 4). The Money Issue. Comparing the Military Leaders of the Civil War Essay

When we compare the military leaders of both North and South during the Civil War, it is not hard to see what the differences are. One of the first things that stand out is the numerous number of Northern generals that led the â€Å"Army of the Potomac.† Whereas the Confederate generals, at least in the â€Å"Army of Northern Virginia† were much more stable in their position. Personalities, ambitions and emotions also played a big part in effective they were in the field, as well as their interactions with other officers. Each general that was appointed commander of the army in the east had his own plans when it came to defeating the Confederates. Beginning with McDowell, the first general to command a large army in the war, the task seemed†¦show more content†¦On the other hand had the Confederates been able to press their advantage after the Union lines broke, they might have made things difficult for Washington. Later in the war, with more experience they certainly would not have passed up that sort of opportunity, but as it was they were quite happy with the victory they had won. After the loss at Manassas, Lincoln looked for another leader to replace McDowell, and some consideration settled on General McClellan. McClellan was at his best when he was organizing armies, not leading them into battle. Lincoln wanted the army to take over eastern Tennessee for political reasons, and McClellan for fairly sound military reasons wanted the same thing. The task was given to General Buell; it did not matter to McClellan that the area was impossible to take from the north, not to mention holding it. The area was too far away from the supplies that Buell would have needed, and logistically completely impossible to supply. Buell presented another plan to McClellan that called for General Halleck to march out of Kentucky and Buell to capture Nashville. This would leave the Confederates in east Tennessee in an untenable position, and force them into a desperate battle, or a withdrawal from the area. This trait played a major role in much of the rest of McClellan’s time in command of theShow MoreRelatedWhy The North Won The Civil War995 Words   |  4 Pagesthe North Won the Civil War? Chaucer and the Seven Deadly Sins free essay sample

Shayne White Chaucer and the Seven Deadly Sins In the catholic religion the seven deadly sins: envy, pride, lust, anger, sloth, greed, and gluttony are themes that Catholics should stay away from and not abide to. In the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer the tales expose a common, universal truth which is the seven deadly sins. In the Tales the characters in the stories struggle with the temptation of not obeying the sins which incorporates and suggest why the pilgrims telling the stories are in fact on the pilgrimage. The pilgrims in the Canterbury Tales are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to seek spiritual renewal for the sin or sins that they have committed. In the prologue of the Tales it writes, â€Å"People long to go on pilgrimages/. . . Down to Canterbury they wend/ To seek the holy blissful martyr quick/ To give his help to them when they were sick† (1 Chaucer). We will write a custom essay sample on Chaucer and the Seven Deadly Sins or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The description in the quote explains that the pilgrims feel â€Å"sick† in spiritual terms and need to be renewed from the past committed sins. Also, in the essay, Sketches of the Characters in The Canterbury Tales, written by Marchette Chite she says, â€Å"The [pilgrims] have walked out of England into immortality because they were born of a universal rather than a contemporary truth†. The quote explains that the pilgrims have gone to Canterbury because they have gotten away from a â€Å"contemporary truth† which is believed to be the seven deadly sins. Pilgrims, then have to resort to a religious quest or pilgrimage to seek out spiritual renewal to the fullest extent. The actions of the characters in the tales suggest that the characters struggle with the temptations of the seven deadly sins just as the pilgrims have. There are many occasions in the Canterbury Tales that tell of characters committing the sins. In the Knight’s Tale it writes, â€Å"Now as he spoke, Arcite chanced to see/ This lady as she roamed there to and fro, / and at the sight, her beauty hurt him so/ That if his cousin had felt the wound before† (Chaucer 33). In the context Arcite lusts over the beauty of Emily and without purposefully try to; he commits the sin of lust. Also, in the Knight’s Tale Theseus fills with anger towards King Creon as he slays the husbands of the women he sees while walking around the outskirts of town and he plans that, â€Å"So far as it should lie within his might, /He would take vengeance on his tyrant King/ This Creon, till the land of Greece should ring/ With how he had encountered him and served/ The monster with the death he had deserved† (Chaucer 29). Here Theseus commits the sin of anger and plans to take vengeance against Creon by killing him. Chaucer portrays that the characters in the stories commit the sins involuntarily and do it out of high emotions. In The Mercantile Ideology in Chaucer’s Shipman’s Tale written by Helen Fulton she explains the ideology of the merchant by incorporating the work and how the merchants conduct their business. She writes that, â€Å"The wealthier merchants developed a unifying ideology based on the trade and the financial practices of his occupation. She also mentions that, â€Å"other critics, working within on older ideology of business ethics, condemn the merchant for practicing ‘bad business’† (Fulton 311). Fulton then goes on to say that, â€Å"Janette Richardson [the other critic] reads the tale as a straight opposition between spiritual goodness and the evils of materialism†. And that the merchant, â€Å"has blindly accepted a worldly standard of values in place of spiritual truth; and†¦ he is therefore doomed† (Fulton 313). Richardson explains that the merchant’s ideology is influenced by the â€Å"evils of materialism† and that the merchant has blindly accepted values of materialism and money in place of spiritual truth and is doomed for doing so. Chaucer uses the universal truth of the seven deadly sins to incorporate the context of a pilgrimage for spiritual renewal. The actions of the characters in the Canterbury Tales tie into the reason of the pilgrimage as the pilgrimage is a result of doing the things and committing the sins that the characters did in the Tales. Chaucer shows that although we all have and will continue to commit sins spiritual renewal for those bad actions can and will be achieved in a pilgrimage.

Shakespeares play Essay Example For Students

Shakespeares play Essay Prospero appears in the play early on in the second scene. After the exhilarating beginning to The Tempest, his daughter Miranda and himself bring about a calmer atmosphere, Shakespeare has intended to do so, to the extent that he has converted the language into verse for these characters. Miranda especially expresses a flowing and poetical image where she tries to portray herself as a helpless and weak girl O, I have suffered. Some sentences are linked to add to this affect th welkins overall her reflection creates an outline of Prosperos character, as he is her father. By examining the detail of characters with some connection to Prospero, like Miranda and Caliban for example, makes it simpler to assess his character. For the reason that the way he acts around different people shapes his personality. Meanwhile a Christian friend of Antonio and Bassanio, called Lorenzo, runs away with Shylocks daughter, Jessica. Shylocks loss affects him deeply, with the need for revenge. Shylock then requires his pound of flesh from Antonio, whom had not repaid him. Taken to court, Shylock rejects large sums of money and insists that he has his pound of flesh. A disguised Portia solves the argument and tells Shylock to take his pound of flesh, without blood being drawn. This leads to defeat of Shylock, who is stripped of his belongings and is forced to become a Christian.  Throught the play Shylock is persecuted by most non Jews he knows. He is a strong character in the play, through the unfortunate dominance of Christians; he wont tolerate nor give up his perseverance to earn his own rights. Shakespeares audience in the Elizabethan era would see the play as a reality, from being set in the same era. 16th centaury Venice was full of fashion, culture, trade and sophistication. The Christian leaders were keen to quell the activities of the Jews, and so created one of the first Jewish ghettos, forcing Jews to live in a particular area.  In my opinion, Shakespeares audience would have portrayed Shylock as a villain. This is because the play was written in their period of time; the culture didnt come as a shock, therefore seeing racial prejudice as normal. In their era, Jews were put below Christians, they were even seen as a different species compared to Christians. The audience would have seen Shylock as scum and a disgrace, taking more notice of his selfishness and greed, I am right loath to go; there is some ill a brewing towards my rest, for I did dream of money bags tonight. Shylock was very determined to have justice for how the Christians had previously treated him, which the audience would have disliked, as Christians were above everyone else. Shakespeare showed how Shylock and his daughter, Jessica, had a rocky relationship. Shylock was shown not to treat Jessica very well, Alack, what heinous sin is it in me to be ashamd to be my fathers child! An audience in Shakespeares time, would have found this a disgrace, and would hold sympathy for Jessica. Because of the massive difference between our culture and the culture in the Elizabethan era, we would see Shylock from a completely different perspective. We would see Shylock as a man persecuted because of his religion. This is because we take more notice how people act towards Shylock, through being prejudice, I am like to call thee so again, to spit on thee again, to spurn thee too, seeing through his selfishness and greed. The quote also shows how stubborn Christians were and how they could get away with spitting on the Jews, or verbally abusing them. We show It is also seen throughout the play that Shylock receives no sympathy from any of the other characters in the play, every one hates him, so we would want to be sympathetic towards Shylock. Shylock is treated badly by Christians and cant do anything about it, so instead he shows his anger through revenge. We would show sympathy here, as in our modern day culture all religions are generally accepted, we also we see his viciou s actions as a response for being victimised by Christians. Shakespeare challenges the notion of conventional marriage in Much Ado About Nothing using the characters of Beatrice and Benedick EssayThou calldst me dog before thou hadst a cause, but since I am a dog, beware my fangs. The duke shall grant me justice. This quote shows Shylocks determination t not give up. However, it is hard to notice some of Shylocks cruel acts towards the Christians he comes cross, but we see that Shylock has only become a villain through being a victim, The villainy you teach me I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction. In my own opinion, I would portray Shylock as a victim more than a villain. This is based on the way Shylock was treated, and how he wasnt accepted because he was a Jew. I see that the only way he was villainous was because Christians treated him unfairly. I therefore see expectable excuses for the way Shylock acted, but I see no excuse for Christians to push Jews out of their society, and treat them like scum. If Christians didnt separate the Jews from themselves in the first place, then there wouldnt be so much anger and disagreement.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

According to Morrison, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process of organizing and generating building data throughout the growth of a project. Indeed, BIM is an actual-time, three dimensional, vibrant building modeling computer systems where business people can enhance productivity during generating constructions and designs functions (2003, p.4).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Building Information Modeling (BIM) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Actually, this process generates BIM that connects geographical information, spatial association, constructing geometry, properties and quantities with all correlated building components. Certainly, â€Å"BIM generate a reliable digital account of an existing building for design management, appropriate construction document invention, cost approximate, construction scheduling and performance forecast† (Larner Walter, 2004, p.36). Moreover, acquir ing the capability to update information and attain an incorporated digital setting enable constructors, engineers’ architects and business owners’ clear objectives of their business organizations and capability to generate informed strategies quickly. The process of BIM entails geographic information, space, properties, capacity (quantity) and geometry of building constituents. Definitely, BIM is a useful course that reveals the whole building life cycle, facility process and construction operation. Why BIM Approach to Revit Revit is an influential BIM system which enhances capability to update, administer and design data for various stakeholders in the entire administration, design and construction segment of building life cycle. Really, Revit is a modeling system which has an influential database in BIM system. Furthermore, Revit is mainly utilized by contractors and designers for building operation. Indeed, Revit is important in building life cycle (BIM). In fact, Revit is a competent device in BIM that facilitate all data which concern building operation on condition that such structures are documented and modeled. BIM Execute Design Process According to Sebastian, design is normally a process where information is sequentially refined in succession stages or phases, each aiming at segment of a design (2010, p.10). Actually, every design process has particular questions and objectives which are normally handled before proceeding to other phases.Advertising Looking for research paper on architecture? The early phases aim at high-level policies of main effects which influence later phases. Moreover, the later stages aim at exploring and enhancing recognized objectives and accomplishing required task. BIM Managing Information Adoption of BIM devices generate opportunity that totall y transforms and enhances design process in many ways. Though â€Å"BIM adopts the 2D-CAD design technique to enhance output of construction document stage, BIM design operation transforms its process in more effective manner through developing design information in the entire project stages† (Devuyst, Hens De Lannoy, 2001, p.20). Indeed, BIM supports design team to analyze and assess output of their design at earlier phases of project. The early response enables fundamental and influential design policies to be enacted in the process. These give more possibility to form greater effects at affordable costs. Project Definition; when BIM Project starts and ends Project definition is an activity that has particular objectives and conditions, with defined duties, starting date and ending time, strategic plan, budget outline and stakeholders involved. BIM is a project that is focused to organize and develops digital account of efficient and physical features of a facility. Indeed , the consequent BIM project becomes a resourceful facility that supports strategies from earlier phases, through building and design process, to lifecycle operation prior to its termination period. Larner Walter expressed that: â€Å"BIM was started when Bernstein Phil, an architect adopted the term BIM (Building Information Modeling). Moreover, Laiserin Jerry supported Phil to popularize the term as a typical notion of digital account in building operation. Indeed, BIM was started in 1987† (2010, p. 38) Nevertheless, the termination period of BIM is not certain at the moment. However, BIM’s future is anticipated to play an important role in construction documentation. Many people have claimed that BIM provide enhanced visualization. Moreover, BIM has offered enhanced output due to effective recovery of information. BIM has improved operation efficiency hence has reduced expenditure costs.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Building Infor mation Modeling (BIM) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Actually, BIM provide important information such as particular materials needed, amount requested for tendering and locality where such materials can be obtained. However, the end of BIM technology is not certain, though its project operation is only for a temporary basis. The Uses of AutoCAD and Revit â€Å"Revit device is a BIM resolution tool for plumbing, mechanical and electrical engineers† (Morrison, 2003. p.2). Indeed, Autodesk revit software offers an incorporated documentation, design and evaluation device to facilitate building operations. There are several software applications which contribute for valuable design systems. Autodesk revit is just one of such application in BIM operation. Actually, Revit is the major BIM application; however, other application serves particular important functions. On the other hand, AutoCAD is helpful as it supports expertise to p recisely document, design and draft building operations (Larner Walter, 2004, p.34). Furthermore, AutoCAD system is invented to enable people who draft design in order to accomplish their tasks effectively. AutoCAD is system used by engineers, architects and designers. Actually, AutoCAD is capable to generate informational documents and device plans; it is a multipurpose program that manages various professions. Indeed, AutoCAD is renowned for its capability to generate blueprints easily through consuming less time. Furthermore, constructors and architects can utilize AutoCAD to plan for building features and details for building operations. BIM Focusing on Project Communications Management The function of BIM is beyond design and planning stages in an operation. BIM technology is engaged in facility management, building stage and post-building stages. Indeed, BIM notions visualize virtual facility building before its real physical building operates in order to minimize uncertainty , enhance safety, resolve challenges, and motivate and evaluate potential consequences (Morrison, 2003, p. 5). From contractors, information team, and management, BIM are in a stable situation to track information loss that may have happened in the project operation schedule. This strategy can be carried out through enabling every team members to add and retrace information obtained during the project management. This would generate positive contribution to the project and facility owner.Advertising Looking for research paper on architecture? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Benefits of Revit Adopting revit enhances and designs building that give a plethora of societal, environmental and economic advantages that are more useful than AutoCAD. Actually, Devuyst, Hens De Lannoy viewed that: â€Å"Revit minimizes wastage of resources on project operation; enhances on-site renewable opportunities; able to identify errors and alleviate risks; enhances stewardship self-assurance in general public; promotes workers productivity; discovers ways to minimize Field Cycle Time; and is cost effective. Revit has become a building word in the BIM technology. Revit has transformed modeling, design and drafting processes; it is the most recognized market share in the BIM technology, demonstrating its approval and reputation in the comprehensive fraternity of building† (2001, p.17) An industry Presentation of BIM-Implementation Sebastian viewed that BIM implementation is cost-effectiveness, painless and easy when handled with appropriate quantity of preparation an d strategy (2010, p. 11). Indeed, the appropriate quantity is reached based on aims and functioning of individual firms. Moreover, BIM implementation needs critical strategy and committed accomplishment of plans. Indeed, firms should know techniques that are capable to assess failures and to achieve BIM implementation strategies and policies. Furthermore, BIM implementation needs knowledge of both long and short term project strategies. Assessing failures and achievements of BIM implementation can be analyzed through revisiting previous designs while adopting new technology and measures. BIM Training Levels BIM technology has adopted software education to achieve victory in building information modeling. Indeed, the BIM training systems is ‘a balanced act’; teaching appropriate skills for qualified people. BIM technology strives for change; BIM focus for transformation of work techniques, project management and staffing, and how a company utilizes available resources in the building models. Moreover, BIM uses productivity payback to increase efficiency while minimizing losses. In case application is simple to learn, like Revit, there is tendency to skip some training levels. Productivity payback thus ensures that all training levels are covered to avoid negative outputs. Devuyst, Hens De Lannoy illustrated the following three BIM training levels: visualization with BIMx, Artlantis, Piranesi and ArchiCad; revit and AutoCAD training programs; and sketchUP and Google Earth training programs (2001, p. 20). BIM Myths â€Å"Due to recent achievement of BIM programs after American government approved BIM modeling, several building firms perceived underlying myths about BIM technology† (Sebastian, 2010, p.8). The first myth is that people thought that BIM modeling is simple and easy task to accomplish. â€Å"Such people are blinded by propaganda of clever marketing† (Sebastian, 2010, p.9). Actually, BIM requires skilled expertise and dedica tion experiences. The second myth is that â€Å"BIM is automatic† (Sebastian, 2010, p.7). People think that BIM is organized by â€Å"isolated CAD engineers who mindlessly build figures in computer systems† (Sebastian, 2010, p.7). Indeed, BIM is more than technology; it is a practice which virtually signifies building and much BIM information focuses on building designs. Another myth is that BIM is functional. This actually is true but BIN technology would soon become obsolete. Obstacles of BIM Adoption Residential building industry is encountering obstacles toward BIM adoption. To begin with, the perception has always existed that fewer issues translate to small scale project management. Thus, the issue is design complexity. Actually, BIM is recognized as more profitable and appropriate for huge building projects. Such opinion has been an obstacle of BIM practice on smaller residential projects. Secondly, â€Å"lack of ambition and marketing; business BIM mostly conc entrates on marketing† (Devuyst, Hens De Lannoy, 2001, p.24). Indeed, BIM suppliers like Autodesk mainly concentrate on commercial construction projects. BIM residential clients are rarely targeted; therefore BIM prospective is still unknown to residential owners. Thirdly, economies of scale: â€Å"Profits between commercial and residential BIM projects are different. Residential projects normally attain lesser profit as compared to commercial projects. As a result, residential owners are not willing to invest their resources in projects associated with BIM† (Larner Walter, 2004, p.39) BIM Paradigm Shift BIM is a paradigm shift that is similar to revit organization. Adoption of revit system is useful as it offers important data which are vital for sustainable designs. BIM is a paradigm shift that uses vital construction software such as Autodesk and revit. â€Å"BIM is unique system that supports construction, design and engineering industry† (Sebastian, 2010, p.9).
